It is always busy when it comes to new smartphone releases in August to October every year. Apple’s iPhone X and iPhone 8, LG V30, and Samsung Galaxy Note 8 have already made their appearance recently. Google’s next-generation Pixel smartphone will be announced on 4 October, according a YouTube video from Google.

In the video:

What’s wrong with my phone’s battery?  Why is my phone always out of storage?  Why does my phone take so many blurry photos?  Why doesn’t my phone understand me? Why can’t my phone update itself?  Why is my smartphone so slow?  Why is my smartphone so hot?  Why is my smartphone so fragile?  Why is my smartphone so annoying?  Why is my smartphone so broken?  Why is my smartphone so cruel?  Why is my smartphone so impersonal?  Why is my smartphone so dumb?

The teaser video from Google shows a bunch of questions related to smartphones, such as battery life, storage space and photo quality. We think that all the “problems” described by those questions are what Google thinks the new Pixel 2 smartphones will hope to address. Or it is all about the improvement of the Google Assistant.

Google also has a new webpage linked in the video description, which say to “stay tuned for more on October 4”. The webpage allows visitors to leave their emails for information about the devices from Google.

Rumored Features of The Pixel 2

The smaller Pixel 2 will be manufactured by HTC, while the larger Pixel 2 XL by LG. The Pixel 2 will have a 4.97-inch Full HD (1080p) display with similar sized bezels like the original Pixel. A 6-inch 18:9 QHD+ OLED display will be quipped for the Pixel 2 XL with slim/little bezels.

Both of them will have dual front-facing stereo speakers, but without a 3.5 mm headphone jack. They might have a squeezable frame, like the HTC U11, to interact with Google Assistant. Google will stick to a single camera and no optical image stabilization for the two new phones.

Specifications:

  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 835/836 SoC
  • 4GB of RAM
  • 32GB and 128GB of storage
