AMD has already made an huge impact in the CPU market with their new Ryzen series desktop processors. The Ryzen APU will be based on the successful “Zen” processor micro-architecture, pairing with the latest Vega internal graphics. It will be called as “Raven Ridge”, and manufactured in 14 nm process.

According to AMD, the Ryzen APU will have 50% better CPU performance, 40% better GPU performance, when comparing to 7th generation APU (Bristol Ridge). And at the same time, it will consume 50% less power. APU for consumer market will be available in the 2nd half of 2017, while commercial products come in the 1st half of 2018.

Recently, benchmark results of the Ryzen 5 2500U APU were found on Geekbench 4. We can know that the 2500U is equipped with 4 cores and 8 threads, clocked at 2.00 GHz. It is paired with 4 MB of L3 cache and 2 MB of L2 cache. All results get around 3,500 marks and 10,000 marks in single-core and multi-core scores respectively.

When comparing to previous generation APU, the A12-9800 and A12-9730P, we can see the Ryzen 5 2500U outperforms both of them in single-core and multi-core performances. It gets at least 35% higher in single-core and over 70% in multi-core scores (thanks to Simultaneous Multi-Threading). Even if comparing with Intel Core i5-7500U, the Ryzen 2500U APU remains very competitive in raw performance.
