Google Removed The “View Image” Button From Its Search Results

Have you ever used the “view image” button, when you are searching for some photos/pictures on Google? It is a convenient way for users to access the full resolution of the selected image. From now on, Google does not provide the direct links to directly view the image from its search results anymore.

Google is doing this mostly because of its legal settlement with Getty Images, to stop or reduce copyright infringements. The “view image” button had made stealing photos from their original publishers/photographers too simple and easy, without any proper licenses/permissions. You will need to take a couple more extra steps to save the images.

You will still be able to use the “visit” button to go to where the images are located. The copyright information and attribution will now be more prominent in the search results. Google’s move may not be favorable in most users’ eyes, but this is in the right direction for all content creators.

Earlier in November 2017, there were already rumors about Intel making their Core i9 Extreme edition processors available for high-end notebooks. The CPUs will be based on the latest Coffee Lake architecture, not the desktop variants’ Skylake or Kaby Lake. Now, more information about the processors in this SKU, the i9-8950HK was leaked.

A leak from 3DMark was recently found by Videocardz, that the Core i9-8950HK was shown in one of MSI’s notebooks. According to the leaked specifications, the processor has 6 cores and 12 threads with a base clock of 2.9 GHz. The boost clock can go up to 3.9 GHz, and is expected to have unlocked multiplier, meaning an overclockable CPU.

A normal password is never the ideal way of protecting your accounts or hardware. You would need a strong, but hard-to-remember password. It is becoming more common to sign in to online services using our mobile phones for the added security and convenience. Now, Microsoft is trying to replace the “password” method with mobile phone for login in the latest Insider Preview Build (17093).

Microsoft:

Passwords are inconvenient and insecure. With Windows 10 S you don’t have to!

According to Microsoft, this login method is only available on Windows 10 S PC currently. On this Windows S version (Build 17093), you can use this method by downloading the Microsoft Authenticator app. The app is compatible with both Android and iOS devices. You will not need to enter any passcode, after successfully setting up Windows Hello. Despite the traditional password’s inconvenience, it will still be one of the ways to sign in your computer, along with the already existing fingerprint and facial recognition.

This version of Insider Preview Build also includes other updates and improvements. You can manually delete Windows diagnostic data related to the device. There are better HDR support and security settings. For more information about it, you can visit Microsoft’s blog post.

Unlike iOS, Android is known to have a serious problem of fragmentation. Many Android smartphones often have a very surprisingly short software support lifespan from their manufacturers. Most of them will be stuck with whatever Android version that comes with the device at first. After two years, Android 7.0/7.1 Nougat finally becomes the most popular version of Android.

According to a recent update from Google, Android Nougat’s market share is now sitting at around 28.5%, combining 7.0’s 22.3% and 7.1’s 6.2%. This overtakes Android 6.0 Marshmallow‘s 28.1%, which was released in 2015. The latest Android 8.0/8.1 Oreo is at 1.1% currently. For comparison, Apple has confirmed that 65% of the devices are using iOS 11, and 28% in iOS 10.

Overall, there are still about 42.3% of devices using Android 5.0 Lollipop or lower versions, which are relatively outdated. Little to none updates will be provided to fix any software issues or security flaws.

It is rumoured that Google will try to fix the Android fragmentation problem on the next version (9.0) later this year. For example, more system features will be in the Google Play Store for faster and easier updates.

G.SKILL had already stretched the limit of the speed of DDR4 RAM with the Trident Z memory kit at 4600 MHz last year. But the company pushed even further and announced the new Trident Z RGB memory kit running at a whopping 4700 MHz, which is the fastest DDR4 memory in the world.

G.SKILL:

Today, all the hard work is finally paying off. G.SKILL successfully developed the world’s fastest RGB memory kit at a blistering DDR4-4700MHz, while maintaining ultra-low timings at CL19-19-19-39.

The memory kit has a capacity of 16 GB, with two 8 GB sticks. The memory uses high performance Samsung B-die ICs and can run at a respectable timings at CL19-19-19-39 at 1.45V. The previous RAM speed record for a RGB memory kit is at 4266 MHz, and the Trident Z RGB takes a huge step forward to 4700 MHz (about 10.2% higher). The memory supports Intel XMP 2.0 profile for easier overclocking.

The Trident Z RGB DDR4-4700 memory kit had already done stress tests on a MSI motherboard with the Intel Core i7-8700K processor. As usual, the RGB lighting can be controlled with various motherboard RGB LED software, such as ASUS Aura Sync and MSI Mystic Light Sync.

The memory kit will be available in Q2 2018, and pricing has not yet announced. For more information, you can visit G.SKILL’s website.

Microsoft introduced its latest operating system, Windows 10, in 2015, aiming to replace the not so successful Windows 8/8.1. Despite having mostly positive reviews at launch (start menu comeback and simpler overall design), Windows 10’s global market share was still fall behind the 9-year-old Windows 7. However, according to StatCounter, Windows 10 finally overtook Windows 7 in January 2018.

StatCounter:

Its research arm Statcounter Global Stats finds that Windows 10 reached 42.78% in terms of worldwide internet usage compared to 41.86% for Windows 7.

The Dublin-based web traffic analysis service provider, StatCounter, recently provided the statistic about the global market share of the Microsoft Windows operating system (desktop). In January 2018, Windows 10 had a worldwide market share of about 42.78%, while Windows 7 had 41.86%. The two had a 0.92% difference. Windows 10 was steadily increasing from around 30% in 2017. This is a major milestone for Microsoft, as Windows 10 becomes the largest PC operating system.

Windows 10 had already surpassed Windows 7 in North America in January 2017, and in United Kingdom in 2016. Although the Windows 10’s global market share is leading, there are still some regions that Windows 7 is still holding the crown.

Corsair Adds RGB Lighting to Its Splash-Proof K68 Mechanical Keyboard

Corsair K68 RGB Keyboard Release

Last year (2017), Corsair introduced its first dust and spill resistant mechanical keyboard, the K68. The regular K68 keyboard is aimed to prevent damage against accidental spillage from users. The keyboard features genuine Cherry MX Red switches, but it only comes with a red LED backlight. Luckily, Corsair just added RGB lighting to the new K68 RGB keyboard.

In terms of appearance, the K68 RGB looks exactly the same as its regular variant. It is a full-sized 104-key keyboard with dedicated media keys. The keyboard is using Cherry MX Red or Blue switches, instead of only Red switches. There is also a white plastic backplate underneath the keycaps, to reflect more lights forward. To fully customize the RGB lighting, users will have to control through the Corsair Utility Engine (CUE) software.

Most importantly, the K68 RGB keyboard has the same IP32 dust and water resistant rating, which is done by having a silicon rubber shield above the circuit board. It may not survive through a total submersion in water, but can certainly deal with small liquid splashes without any problem.

The K68 RGB will cost $119.9 USD (MSRP), which is $20 USD more than the regular K68. For more information about the keyboard, you can check out its product page from Corsair.

Apple Will No Longer Support 32-bit Applications on Future macOS Versions

Apple Removes Support for 32-bit Apps on macOS
Screen Capture from Apple

Since the launch of the iPhone 5s in 2013 and its A7 SoC (the first 64-bit mobile processor), Apple is pushing both in hardware and software level to move forward to full 64-bit environment. In iOS 11, only 64-bit applications are able to run. Older 32-bit iOS apps will not work anymore, unless they update. Now, Apple is also starting to phase out 32-bit apps in macOS.

Apple released the latest developer beta for macOS 10.3.4 High Sierra recently. A new pop-up message will show up, when users are trying to download a 32-bit app from the Mac App Store. Similar to what iOS 10 did, the system will warn users if their apps are updated to 64-bit, but will still allow the apps to run. Moreover, after January 2018, Apple only approves macOS apps that have full 64-bit support to the Mac App Store.

As all Mac computers, that are manufactured in recent years, are equipped with Intel 64-bit processors, there will not have any hardware limitation for Apple to push forward to complete 64-bit operating environment. We will have to wait and see if the official release of macOS 10.3.4 will still support running 32-bit apps.
